You could say the wince is owing to the awkwardness of his hearing his own voice. It's possible- Lennon hated his own voice. But, then again, he's not Lennon and I'm not him, so I could be way-off-the-mark. And, anyway, the wince happened when his voice wasn't singing. Greetings from the South Pacific.

i love morrisseys wince ! was quoted that the orchestration was too flowery and that they only used bits of it on the finished song ! it does jar a bit with the flow of the lyrics at times but i still like it !
