@BreezesofConey Some of the most popular and widely read novels are very old and do not always follow these new rules. Just saying. I have read books that broke many of these rules and enjoyed them well. I think writers just like to make themselves look important and experienced. There is very little different in my opinion. You're telling but with more detail, only. "John was getting old" vs. "The mail man handed him the brochure for life insurance. "Hey Just For Men works great, John." He said

I think it's just bullocks having to curb your creative flow by having to keep stopping and asking yourself if you are showing or telling. Who made this rule up anyway? I once read a novel that was turned into a movie and the entire novel had no breaks in dialogue, etc. That was published. I think if every book was the same it takes away the fun of writing and the writers' style.
