I was tattooed by Keone last week - truly brilliant guy. The process was a lot less painful than machine tattooing. The church is a small community centre way outside any tourist areas,- it's in one of the Hawaiian Homestead areas in Nanakuli about 30 miles or so outside of Waikki. He likes to meet with you first and talk about whop you are and where you're from before he decides what your tattoo should be and where it should go. I felt very honored to receive my Kakau from him.

And few treasures from Aotearoa can compare to pounamu or greenstone as it is unique in the Pacific - most probably another gift of reciprocation I imagine. Amongst my people we have a saying - he kuare ano te kuare (ignorance is ignorance until proven otherwise) - food for thought perhaps?

Keone was intrinsic in the rebirth of traditional pre-European tatoo techniques here in NZ, and also taught one of the first contemporary Maori female ta moko artists.. Amongst the tatau culture of Polynesia, the exchange of ideas and teachings is often reciprocated with tatau itself.

I agree that it probably would've been better to get one in Samoa, but they did go to a Polynesian man who is carrying on Polynesian tradition. All the talk about stealing culture is stupid. This is fucking hilarious. I was just read all the comments on the video and I am see a lot of hate. As in Hawaiians fighting with Tongans, Fijians, Tahitians, and Samoans. LOL. This world can never be peaceful if we all fight against our own culture. Its the same how Japanese and Koreans or Chinese or whatever Asian culture they fight about each other but yet they have the same/similar background/culture. xD
