Video from the annual boat gathering at Sunnmøre Museum in Ålesund, western Norway. We sail with traditional boat types from Sunnmøre and mid-Norway, as snedbetning, ottring, Åfjordsboat and sometimes Viking ship replicas.

  • These boats are surprisingly seaworthy. A small færing can carry a ton of cargo in calm weather. The ballast stones are round, so that they roll out in case of capsize. Then the boat will stay afloat and can be righted with some luck. Several surviving stories from older times confirms that this was actually done.
