mindfulness is any number of things interpreted differently by many sects. in general, mindfulness is focusing on every step of detail when doing common work such as walking or doing your laundry. meditation has its own interpretations in buddhism. some believe that your mind must be clear, hear nothing and get lost in the peacfeulness of the universe. others believe that meditation requires a focus on a thought. i know buddhism all too well, my father is a buddhist monk.
