When we were kids (Thousands of years ago), there was a line of amazing businesses along what we once called the "Miracle Mile". There was more for a kid to do along this part of North 48th street than can be mentioned. From "The Arena" (Known now as "Skate Zone"), north to a great diner-type restaurant called "The Patio".
Time has reduced this area to the usual string of no-big-deal, run-of-the-mill box stores, and various national chain businesses, just like every other street in every other city.
There are just a handful of the gems I remember so fondly from childhood. I thought I'd better get them on video before they too become nothing more than memories.
This is a simple, brief look at the remaining 3 or 4 places that made this area what it once was. KID FRIENDLY.
Also, a location of significance for me, North Cotner & Leighton, were I was involved in a horrendous motorcycle accident, a long, long time ago. (Hallowed ground.)
And a few other "Snowy Saturday" activities.

  • music credit please?

  • @iverburl The music in this video is just simple Garage Band. A few tunes that are pre-installed with every Mac.

  • Love the owl opening! Great job, Dan. Winter's last stand, ........maybe???? Looks like your fav restaurant again!

  • @BurgerChefGuy I hope winter's through with us! A 20% chance of snow today, but temps in the 50's & 60's for the rest of the week!!!

Did someone say…BBQ? heh heh. Thanks for stopping by, James!

  • Hi Dan i know what you mean and this is what we should call progress mmm i`m not to sure the personal touch has been lost at every level, we now live in a desposable world, when once mr jones would fix your radio or your freezer its like hell just buy a new one or does our insurance cover this ?? And change can be good or bad only time tells that one, great video buddy loved it

  • @whynotgivitago Thanks so much Wullie!

Yes, progress marches on. Who knows, maybe sometime well into the future, someone will think in nostalgic ways about the "Best Buy's", the "Staples", and the "Wal Marts" of their youth.

  • @SmokeyGoodness Yes the rebel is great for low light pictures and video. I have not figured out how to make the auto focus work when zooming in video mode... all of your transitional zooms were smooth and clear, very nice! and in HD the colors of the video on the signs and stuff was very crisp!

  • @JimboJitsu Night time images were from the T2i, and the tour on 48th was from my little HV30. Both amazing cameras!

That opening shot was recorded in (almost) total darkness!!!

  • sweet quality in HD! and my new PC played it just fine... Did you use the rebel for making that video?

  • @BetterThanObits Thanks Steve! As you know, I've been wanting to make this video for a long time!

    Finally got around to it.

  • The scenes, the music, the fish - everything somehow combined to create a sense of nostalgia, even for those of us who were never there.

    Well done, Dan.
