Actually I am originally from New Zealand, but have lived in Australia for many years. I am fascinated that Bryan Brown and Donald Trump are cultural references in NZ, but who is Bryan Brown - a handsome man no doubt (given your comparison between myself and this man). this is some of the most ignorant advice i have heard. to say there is a "right" and "wrong" way to go about music makes you just as bad as those who are living in the past as you refer to. and then saying you should confuse the bass player about keys? so basically you are encouraging the guitarist and the bassist to play in 2 different keys essentially making a mess of dissonant noise? maybe the drummer should play out of time as well? pull your stuck up head out of your ass.

If the drummer can creatively play out of time in an artistic and intellectual way, then yes, but only if he can play in 7/4 with some 'intelligent' swing.

Im not trying to be an ass but isn't the purpose of jazz to play what you feel? You said in your video that there was a right way and a wrong way, which i understand in a theory aspect, but your your idea of the wrong way to play jazz didn't sound distasteful to me.. I might just be missing the purpose of the video, but if not, I don't think that there is a wrong way to play what you feel as long as some theory to back it up.

That's so so so great. To be honest - actually I like the out of key fusion sound. And you do it quite well. I wish I could do it that way. What about an instructional video? Once I can do that, we can talk about swing phrasing.
