Customers watched fatally injured man over counter

Would-be customers leaned over the counter for a look at Navtej Singh as he lay fatally injured on the floor of his liquor store after being shot at point-blank range.

Mr Singh was shot in the chest after three gunmen burst into his liquor shop in Manurewa on Saturday night, stealing alcohol and cash. He died 24 hours later.

Shortly after the shooting, as his business partner desperately called police and ambulance, four women and a man entered the shop.

They each leaned over the counter to see Mr Singh who then waited 26 minutes for police and 31 minutes for ambulance to arrive.

Detective Inspector Jim Gallagher said police were still looking for the people who visited the liquor store after the shooting.

He said it is possible the would-be customers saw something outside the shop before they came in.

Yesterday, Mr Gallagher told a media conference that it appeared a man had taken a box of alco-pops without paying.

But today police have been in contact with the manager of the shop and said the man could have left some money on the counter before leaving with the alco-pops.

This is pathetic, whats even worse are the insensitive comments being made. It still amazes me how cold and soul less people can be. Those of you that think someone dying on the floor after being victimized is funny have no soul and shouldnt even be considered a human being.

Im sure I'll get thumbs down or stupid remarks about my post, no matter, It only goes to prove my point and that is this is why our society is so evil and corrupt. Nobody cares about their fellow man, only themselves. SAD

somebody's coming in your shop by gun in his hand ..first thing comes in your mind is save yourself and not doing anything stupid ..you don't try to save bottles of beers and a till that has $500 or so in it.. or try to talk him out of it...that don't make you brave ..btw it's a sad thing to see
