  • Whilst some of the animated skits were amusing in the show, I always found his work largely superfluous to the movies - especially the good ones.

A technique that was already dated when MPFC aired. As for his initial comment - if you examine the careers of Michael Palin, Eric Idle, John Cleese and Terry Gilliam I think you'll find that history has judged justly.

  • How would you say history has judged? They're all middle aged and mostly americanised?

  • I love how the baby eats the woman.

  • THAT WAS HILARAS!!!

  • surrealism indeed

  • @OscarApollo

What I really meant to say is that Gilliam is one of my personal favorites :)

(to me, the statements must necessarily mean the same thing)

I suppose the world could vote on who is the "greatest film director of all time" but 6.7+ billion people will never agree on one person... and I'd be depressed if they did, as that would be an indication of an extremely homogenized global society.

  • @OscarApollo Yes, or perhaps I never "got" Orson Welles.

  • @themontypythonmuseum Well, I was just giving an example to prove that "Terry Gilliam is the greatest director of all time, without doubt" is a pretty dubious claim. There's a lot of candidates - Orson Welles, Akira Kurosawa, Stanley Kubrick...

  • @OscarApollo Orson Welles... What about Kurosawa as best director of all time?

  • @lelapindore There's quite a lot of doubt about that, actually. Quite a lot of people think Orson Welles is the greatest director of all time, and in terms of animators, well... personally, I think the best is Rod Scribner.
