Meredith works hard to instill a sense of intellectual curiosity in our students—not simply because we are expected to as an educational institution, but for the sheer joy of it. Through programs like undergraduate research, Celebrating Student Achievement day, and the Honors Program, Meredith students become well-versed in the research process, from developing an appropriate question to presenting their research at academic conferences. Ida Githu, '13, Aatiqah Khalid, '12, and Jessie Breazeale, '12, are collaborating on a research project focused on identifying possible HIV protease inhibitors found in a Kenyan plant—working together, they are enjoying the opportunity to both hone their research skills and deepen their friendships.
