@VendPrekmurec there is a similar tradition ive seen in northeastern serbia similar to this :) some parts of romania too.

@JohnnyBrooksdotcom old Slovene tradition - that has roots in old pre-Christian "paganism" and survived until today - as every year festival, which starts in february. The mythological figure is called "Kurent" or "Korant", who is "chasing away the winter" - and calls the spring...
Demon, half god Korant is related with Ogenj (Sanskrit's Agni) or "fire" and is bringer of fertility...
