ANCHOR:
After protests in the U.K., the Beijing Olympic torch encountered another large-scale protest in Paris. Europeans, celebrities, and politicians strongly came out to express their thoughts on the human rights abuses of the Chinese communist regime. Here's more from our reporters in Paris.

STORY:
Beijing's Olympic torch arrived in Paris on April 7th. While the torch was being lit at the Eiffel Tower, thousands of people gathered at the human rights and freedom square to protest. A number of councilors, mayors, film stars, and different ethnic human rights organizations gave speeches at the rally.
[Congress Member of Belgium]:
"Europe should take a stand. Europe should act like Europe and adhere to the value of freedom."
[French Human Rights League President]:
"We can love China, love Tibet, and love sports, but we refuse human rights' being trampled on. We demand that leaders of all democratic countries not go to Beijing in August."
[Vietnam Human Rights Organization Representative]:
"The Olympic torch is not, and never will belong to dictators who violate human rights."
[Jane Birkin, French-British Movie Star]: "We are here without any risk. If we do not do anything for those people who risk their lives to safeguard human rights, what should we count ourselves for? Things like this could happen to us too."
[Mark Brulei, Mayor of Paris]: "The Chinese communist party is massacring, torturing, organ harvesting, and imprisoning people who do not pose the slightest threat to its regime. The CCP is the worst dictatorship. It fears peaceful people who are different from them but who just want to live in peace. They use various means to suppress people. It won't last long."
A famous French movie star responds to the fact that tens of millions of Chinese people have announced their withdrawal from the CCP.
[Véronique Jannot, Movie Star]:
"Great! Fantastic! The more people that withdraw, the happier I am."
[Thupten Gyatso, Tibetan Spokesman in France]:
"I greatly admire their courage and strength. The Chinese people have become aware of the seriousness of the crimes committed by the communist party. It's time for the Chinese people to awaken and demand [a real] democracy."
In front of the municipal government in Paris, two ladies had signs on their chest, stating: "We love China, but we do not agree with human rights violations."
[Daniel Crauno, Human Rights Lawyer]:
"Sports should first show respect for others. We need to respect our opponents in sporting activities. Today we would like to tell the Chinese regime, we must respect the people, both men and women, young and old."
[Dominique Hazan-Yllouz, Lawyer]: "I love China, love the Chinese people, but we respect human rights."
At the torch relay, crowds protested in many areas. The security officers had to repeatedly extinguish the torch and transport it by bus. When it arrived at the city hall, the Paris municipal government had already put up a statement saying, "Paris safeguards the human rights in all parts of the world."
