I dunno why I put all this effort into creating this Lunar Comparison. Figuring out how to gather the PSP video with sound.... without a capture card or hacked PSP, was a pain in the butt. Anyway, I just wanted to share with you other classic Lunar fans (Yes, I know the "true" classic was on Sega CD) what's been changed with the game's FMVs. They actually kept the old FMVs from the PSX release and just added new voice-work. They also wrote a new song for the intro. That's all this video is intended to show you, plus it's spoiler free, I only included the earliest of scenes. If you want to see comparisons on how the graphics have changed, there are plenty of sites that'll offer that.

FYI, the watermark is for my friend's site:
http://www.darksidegamerz.net/
I'm trying to get it better known.

Note: This video had to be cut so it could fit within Youtube's 10minute limits.
It's only missing the last Quark comparison I made, if there's enough demand for it (which I doubt), I'll upload it separately.

  • huh, you know what I find funny? Several years ago people were arguing about how bad the VA's were and how corny the lyrics were (and they didn't match the japanese version). Now that they've remade it with better voice actors (luna's voice in the old version made me cringe and I didn't realize Nall was a dude until halfway) and changed the lyrics to how it's supposed to be...yet now people sing praises about the old version and boo the new one! >>

    People are impossible to please!

  • @xtwilightsinx In all my years of being a fan, talking with other fans, and reading articles by fans. I've never once seen or heard anybody complain about the voice acting from the PSX version. We all know it's not grade-A material, but this "people are impossible to please" idea you're going for... must've been a local experience for you.

  • As usual, the old farts complaining about the younger generation ala "In my days with the PSone, the dubbing was better."

I'm from the SNES and PSone generation and I think this new dub is a welcome refreshing experience for the Lunar series. I thoroughly enjoy it and hope the younger generation will enjoy this too.

  • @delitachan As a fellow "old fart" you should realize that all that's happened here is a voicing of opinions. Lunar was an engaging title, and both dubs are honestly mediocre, but once you're pulled into the experience of the game, you end up cherishing your memory of it, flaws included. So, despite the fact that I believe the PSX version was best, I know that's only just an opinion. I am personally glad that the game is being shared with a new generation, now... if only they'd make Lunar 3.

  • old lyrics are better the new one is just to literal

  • she sings so beautifully

  • was this an actual show

  • @xtwilightsinx It may be because people just don't appreciate what they have until it's gone or changed majorly :O

  • @Iavasechui working designs actually made some the games they localized here harder than they were in japan.

  • I actually like Nall's new voice... but part of me wish they chose someone else.

I like both of Ramus(?)'s voices. I like both of Alex's voice, though I prefer PSX Alex sounding more "natural".

...PSP Luna sounds like she's trying too hard to me for some reason, and she sounds kinda nasally. I like 1st Luna's more carefree tone.

  • The only problem I had was I loved the songs in the psx version, not that the new lyrics are bad its just... I was used to the old ones... Also I missed the heck out of Ghaleon's psx voice T_T

The main problem I have with the remake is how patronizingly easy it is -_- easier is one thing, the game was freaking hard on the psx, but too easy is worse...

  • >_> Subpar voice acting? The voice acting for the PSX version was really good. The scripting was, sure, pretty predictable, but that wasn't a problem with the enthusiasm or the effort of the voice actors. Each scene seemed believable--or, as believable as an old fantasy could be. X\ Most video game voice acting even up through early PS2 was not this good, so how do you define "sub par"? S'better than a good number of anime I can point out.
