J.S.Bach (1685-1750) Matthäus-Passion BWV 244
Aria "Blute nur, du liebes Herz"
Sibylla Rubens, Sopran
Collegium Vocale, Dir. Philippe Herreweghe
Blute nur, du liebes Herz!
Ach, ein Kind, das du erzogen,
Das an deiner Brust gesogen,
Droht den Pfleger zu ermorden,
Denn es ist zur Schlange worden.
Blute nur...
Translation:
Bleed on, dear heart!
Ah, a child that you raised,
That sucked at your breast,
Threatens to murder its guardian,
For it has become a serpent.
Bleed on...

Thanks for posting this version with Sibylla Rubens, in my mind she's one of the best contemporary soprano singers.

What vivid flesh and blood Jesus!
Surely "Matthäus Passion" is the music of humanity rather than divinity.
On the other hand I feel that period instruments unfit for express the human feelings though that prove a real worth in performing some like mood music (for instance Brandenburgische)...May be my view is a prejudice, but I suppose that an attachment to original instruments and a love to Bach are incompatible.
