'Lon Dubh' is a composition by the UCC Music PhD student Derek Foott. Using Max/MSP, 'Lon Dubh' uses Craig Reynolds 'Boids' flocking algorithm to create a spectral study of granular synthesis. Each boid is assigned to a frequency parameter using four granular synthesizers and four samples (each split into twenty-five spectral EQ parameters). The boids, once given points of attraction, generate unique results each time the piece is triggered. 'Lon Dubh' is an example of an arranged sequence of the attributes: speed, and points of attraction.
