This is definitely the coolest project I've done with my Arduino. I've basically turned it into a monitor (driving the Sparkfun RGB LED Matrix Backpack controller), and it is paired, via serial-USB, with a Python program which is pumping scaled-down frames from an AVI file to the Arduino in real-time. So it's television - on an 8x8 pixel display!

  • Oh, man. What I would give to see Beavis and Butthead on Low Def.

  • Wait, you mean it _isn't_ low def?

  • That's hysterical!

  • Given the drive toward high-definition, it seemed perfectly reasonable. ;-)

  • you had better be using HDMI cable!

    GOLD PLATED!

  • LOL. I have an arduino too, and that's very cool! I understand the complications of degrading an image to an 8x8 pixel screen, and I still think it's cool. Good job!

  • you should have labled it "Arduino XLDTV" i think thats pretty self-explanitory!

  • BTW, i'ts pronounced oo-boon-too

  • good start!!!!

  • @littlescale why not?

  • Arduino + Ubuntu nice trendy open source setup going. On the real, make the arduino play the video from an SD card for added kicks.

  • you should try a cartoon like the simpsons where theres more generic colors and more easily distinguishable

  • +FAV

  • YAY! UBUNTU!

  • needs more resolution :-)

would be killer if you used 512 or more RGB leds, as you could then view at least some details.

  • Someone did a research project with something like this where each pixel was replaced by a tiny buzzer and the whole lot was mounted in a garment so the array of buzzers was on back of the person about 1ft square against skin. With training a blind person could "see" with it (in low res of course).
