  • @macthecomedian Haha, fair enough!

  • @tsurukotsute i dont know as much about astronomy as i would like to, all i do know is space is random haha. ill take your word, but if we do get fucked by a huge asteroid, im totally going to have to comment on here saying i told ya so, haha

  • Thumbs up for lucky number 7!

  • @macthecomedian But... don't get me wrong. I'm not saying impacts aren't in our future. Our system is relatively calmed down and stable these days, so impacts are getting rarer (big ones extremely so, since they to be the first to get sorted out) ... no, I'm just saying we're sophisticated enough now that nothing big enough to be a serious danger is going to come as a surprise anymore... we'll have decades, centuries, or millenia of forewarning for anything worse than, say, another Tanguska

  • @macthecomedian Well, the atmosphere mostly, plus bigger players on the field like jupiter which sucks up the majority of impacts. Yes, asteroids can hurt... even those that don't make it through the atmosphere can explode in mid-air (the leading theory behind Tanguska, for example.) and flatten things for miles... but the thing is, dangerous monsters are also obvious ones... the bigger they are, the easier they are to see... and track.. and predict. Small surprise ones don't do much harm

  • @tsurukotsute i didn't necessarily mean one this big, but any asteroid flying around in space will do damage if making contact with earth. and what is stopping those from coming in contact?

  • quick question does that only destroy that part of earth and leaves dibris the rest?

  • "The evidence shows that this has happened at LEASTS 6 times in Earths history."

Well, if you cant spell why should we believe you? Any way, just further proof of a need for a manned space program I'd say.

Thanks Obama, you twit, now we're stuck here.

  • if that was real earth would have been obliterated and if it survived it would fall out of its axis and be launched into the nearest star from that angle the asteriod is roughly a little bit smaller than the moon but yeah earth wouldnt stand a chance against that size of an asteriod
