Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell spoke at a town hall meeting in Roanoke on Wednesday, August 4, 2010, at 7:00 p.m., on the topic of government reform.
Before the event began, Rick Sincere (who writes for The Metro Herald in Alexandria and for Examiner.com as well as his own blog, www.RickSincere.com) interviewed the governor on the specific topic of privatizing Virginia's monopoly on wholesale and retail liquor sales.
Governor McDonnell explained the process for reform and his hopes that privatization will result in hundreds of millions of dollars accruing to the Commonwealth for transportation funding.

@ptc9687 Why would any ABC employee readily move from a safe secure, "OK" paying job to working at Walmart or a gas station to sell liquor? ANd $500 million profit for roads? VA ABC adds around $230 million A YEAR to the VA general fund. How does that make sense?

This is a load of crap for a bunch of reasons.
Mcdonell claims he wants VA govt to get out of the liquor business, but his plan is to sell only the retail part, and keep the wholesale (the warehouses) and the prices, controlled by the state. He claims it will make competition better as far as sales of liquor, but 70%+ licenses are already slated to Walmart and Target type stores, which will obviously undercut all other stores. As far as hiring ABC employees in "new stores"?
