Whitewater Falls near Cashiers, North Carolina is a must see. This waterfall - the highest one east of the Rocky Mountains - plunges 411 feet into a landscape that's virtually untouched by humans.
The entire area around Whitewater Falls is protected as part of the Nantahala National Forest, which makes it a treasure for those who love the outdoors. If you continue along the Foothills Trail into South Carolina, there's another 400-foot drop known as the Lower Whitewater Falls that empties into Lake Jocassee.
