JAMES BROWN WAS SO FUNKY HE ONCE SAID IF YOU AINT GOT ENOUGH SOUL HE WOULD LOAN YOU SOME BECAUSE HE HAD SO MUCH SOUL HE HAD SOME TO BURN! CHECK OUT THE CD LIVE IN DALLAS 1968 COLD SWEAT!
I have heard several versions of this song, live and canned, by James Brown, Maceo and the Macks and many others, always funky and fresh. This almost sounds slow. The Godfather always played his fast tunes faster when performing live.
It's great to hear this but unfortunately what your hearing is a slowed down tape. I'm a guitarist and every songs key signature is a half-step lower than the actual key they played in. Common among bootlegs made in the seventies. It's great to hear my hero Jimmy Nolen add different licks and spruce up these arrangements.
One thing I notice about all of Mr. Brown's unreleased or bootleg recordings I have heard: They ALL sound better then any of his official live releases because they sound exactly like they did live, they weren't remixed to the point that they don't sound exactly like they sounded on stage, like all of his official live recordings are to one extent or another.

James Brown once said he had 500 show routines to keep his shit fresh during the 1960s-1970s. You could see him 5 times and never see the same show.

I like that James changes things ups and throws the band a curve in a good way.
