I was there & watched this from the bluff. If I remember right they had been staying out to sea, waiting for a chance to come in for quite some time. The captain finally felt he had to go for it.

Thanks for the comment "tobasco". The original VHS was much longer. I cut it short for the youtube. Some boats were stuck in the Albion bay also because the tide was too low to get up the river. One had his mooring clete ripped out of his bow. Then he used the engine to keep heading into the seas. Watching from the beach the whole boat would disappear in the troughs. It was the same storm as I remember.

Did they capsize later on

@Mario228l Although I wasn't there, I'm sure he didn't. Those old Montereys have a heavy keel and once in the harbor, even listing from water in the bilge, they probably stopped at a fuel station around the bend and got it pumped out. If they had been swamped at sea it might have been a different story. Are there any old salts out there that know?

Spread the word, maybe we can find out who shot this film so we can give her credit. Sukoshy (pronounced "Skoshy") It's Japanese for "Little Bit".

didn`t capsize but it was close. She should have stood off to sea if she couldn`t beat the waves in.

The dictionary says capsize means "Upset". Because of a heavy keel it would have stayed in that position til it filled with water and then sunk straight up. That's the position divers find sunken ocean liners in also. Single hulled sailboats will also right themselves and stay afloat if the cabin is sealed.
