Please forgive me if I am coming off strong... I am tired and about to go to bed. Be good friend. If you wish to continue a conversation, please feel free to message me personally.
The books are so filled with contradictions, historical inaccuracies, erroneous translations, and a collection of boo boo's that not only make the god tale less believable, but actually aid in destroying its own legitimacy... but like I said, I don't care what people claim to know about the unknowable... I am a ma of rational thought and natural phenomena. I live in reality, and will thusly base my knowledge on realistic conclusions... reason.
I'm glad you are animated about your opinion, but there is a MAJOR difference between faith and reason. Faith depends on beleifs WITHOUT evidence and reason depends on beleifs supported by evidence... I am not one to say faith is WRONG, but it is not rational, especially when looked at as 100% true.
Friend... do not feel sorry for me. I think we agree, this conversation will go nowhere... I've answered you're questions, it is you who have avoided mine... As to WHERE in the bible it notes killing and slavery... are you serious... which book would you prefer? Exodus 21:7 is a fun one for sex slaves (sell your daughter and punish her if she does not please her new master)... Exodus 35:2 is a nice one for murder (kill those who work on the sabbath).
I feel sorry for someone that doesn't have faith. You keep answering questions with the same question. Faith is not the opposite of reason. It is clear that this conversation will go nowhere. You can't show me where it says in the bible to kill and have slaves. Please show me there referances so I may respond to them.
You said a ot when you said "I know that God lives, I don't know why the sun rises everyday but it does." There is a difference between blindness and not opening ones eyes. You ask me if god was ok with slavery, well if he killed people for working on he sabbath and seemed disinterested in humans enslaving one another... I'd say that was a stamp of either approval or that it didn't matter...
God is unfalsifiable and faith is the OPPOSITE to reason.
You keep making reference to the OLD testament, which contains the OLD law which was fullfilled. Plese tell me where it says that discrimination and slavery is okay? People back then had slaves but does that mean God was okay with it? Do you beleive in God? You keep saying the "unknown" and "mysical". I know that God lives, I don't know why the sun rises everyday but it does. I don't care if people are gay, I just know that two things that are opposites can't be defined as the same.
My friend your original complaint with my position was "Does god change with the times?" I said yes, you made comments alluding otherwise... The reason the civil rights has a connection with prop 8 is the way in which the BIBLE supports the discrimination of both, and yet one (racism/slavery) is no longer tolerated... God has changed. Let us all remember the difference between a rational worldview and a mystical worldview. You claim knowledge from the unknowable, change is inevitable w/o proof.
"Brebleblahblah. Happy Halloween!" xD!!!!!!!!

Again you make reference to the law of moses. That law was fulfilled. I do not believe that this is at all comparble to the civil rights movement.
