It's true. Water flows in one direction in the northern hemisphere the other direction in the southern. Many people say that you can see it when you flush toilets, but you can't because they are constructed mechanically to flow in one direction. This video I took right on the equator is a great demo.

What is amazing is that the differential effect can be seen barely 10 feet away from the equator in either direction.

  • This was debunked by snopes: snopes dot com/science/coriolis dot asp. xlmeay's comment explains the trick.

  • i agree with xlmeay

  • @zeldaicted I also find it ironic that you call me an idiot when you can't even use "your" correctly.

  • @zeldaicted You obviously don't understand how the Coriolis Effect works. The real way this worked is based on how she pours in the water. She pours it in from different directions, and conservation of angular momentum insures that that it will keep spinning in that direction when she removes the plug.

10 feet is only .0016 degrees of latitude. That means the Coriolis Force is only going to be at less than 1% of what it actually is. That is extremely negligible.

  • @xlmeay your an idiot

  • that's the best demonstration. Thankyou!
