In this 2 part video we make a return visit to the NRM (National railway Museum) located in the city of York in North Yorkshire UK.

http://www.nrm.org.uk/

In this 1st video, we take a look at A4 Mallard. Mallard is better known for being the world record holder of the fastest speed recorded by a steam loco. In the 2nd part to follow, we'll take a look at one of L.N.E.R's steamlined rivals.....coming next.

  • is the mallards tender from flying scotsman

  • @MrEminemrulz No. The Flying Scotsman's tender, was over by the NRM's works part of the museum. what you see here is Mallard's tender.

  • One question, why Mallard doesn´t run with special trains? Is she broken down?

  • Mallard's boiler cert has long since expired, so not allow to run. It would need a lot of work done on to get it back up to current modern day railway running regs, with extra saftey equipment needing fitting etc. The thing is if this work is done, more of the original parts of the loco will need replacing, which the NRM i don't think will do (never say never though). So for the time being, Mallard is one of the star museum exhibits.Cheers.

  • @ay76 yes thats what they said to me, but the daft thing is...shes about 80 years old so no parts are orrigional! they just dont want ruin that lovely lner finnish and condition by as you say adding aws & vac brakes on hervbut also they are not in the finantional conditions to overhall her. she will problbly return within the next 40yrs so look forward to that! but for now...great vid & very detailed! :)

  • @gresleya3kid Talking to the staff at the NRM, they told me there is a lot of original parts still on it. But as it stands no plans to return her to mainline running. However never say never....
