wax pencils are dreadful. Use a fine tip permanent felt marker.. The 'wax' pencil transfers from the tape onto the capstan, and onto the next layer of tape, which then gets transferred to the heads. Ask anyone who has cleaned heads for a couple of decades. With back coated tape, a soft lead pencil does the trick.

Brilliant video! I do these kind of edits but using computer software. It's really interesting to see how it was done before computer technology, and so nicely explained.

@TheBassHeavy I use the computer myself these days, I'm not into self torture! I posted this video because I wanted the contemporary cool crew to see how we suffered way back then in the 1960s... in the days before fine tipped permanent markers!... life is so much easier now with digital recorders and Sound Forge! Thanks for your comments

I would have made it the simple way. Use another recorder, and record on the other tape 1, 2, 3, 4 ... ther press pause, forward on tho skip the 6, then record the five, pause again , rewind to the six, record it, pause again, then record the rest from t to 10. Much easyer and quicklyer ... not to talk about preserving the tape, without damaging it :) Anyway, interesting lesson.

@tudorciob This assumes you have two tape recorders!

@jvmc08 You are welcome. Editing sound is so much easier on a computer but using an editing block and razor blade was, in some way, a much more satisfying activity. Perhaps because there was no Ctrl Z on a tape recorder and if a mistake was made it meant starting all over again! Thanks for watching.
