I went to see Dave Attell live at the Uptown in Kansas City MO and he caught me trying to get a joke on my dit cam. We met afterwards and got an autograph, no hard feelings.

After I quit taping he would go on to say..."Let's get a real picture why don't you put glasses on your dick and we'll call it Harry Potter"

Ya I can see what you are getting at, Attell is really random, and his act seems to just be one continuous skit of bit jokes with no direction. However, just because he doesn't have direction I wouldn't dismiss him from the top, and I think he actually does build up. In a performance he usually makes funny references to earlier jokes at the end. I like a lot of those people you named. Martin, and Zach are really creative, but I sometimes find that most of their jokes are not that funny overall.
