I know they both do but not originally. By the looks of the race results today they could have done it without the motor even:) GO USA !!! I almost felt sorry for the Swiss!

fwiw, there's a motor (as you put it,) on both boats. they removed the restriction on mechanical assistance on the rigs, and as a result the oracle crew was cut by 60%.
so at least in that regard, it's even either way.

You know what, this whole AC thing really kicks ass! I truly love the sport and want all things good and positive. I am sorry if I have cast a negative light on such an incredible event. I wish all the best to all of the patrons, participants and everyone else.

I know I sail catamarans in the Atlantic ocean weekly My original point is that the AC boats should represent all the most cutting edge trick available, as they have, except using a freaking motor to drive anything, including pumps. Why? It's clearly NOT cutting edge and goes backwards in the quest to push technology. I posted some`where else thatwhat would have been super cool and bleeding edge tech is to have the foils generate electricity and drive electric motors for the ballast

Catamarans and Tri's use their beam for ballast. These are not supermaxis like alfa,oats, maximus, leopard etc.... Which do have canting keels. Besides they been using water ballast for like 50 years!

Internal combustion engine
Also known as the piston engine. In internal combustion engines, pistons are driven up and down by cylinders of hot expanding gas. Their movement is transferred by rods and crank shafts to turn wheels.
In this case hydraulics and water ballast. Major cheating! That is a total step backwards in the spirit of the race. I will still watch in wonder but it sucks they went to the stone age on this decision.
