09/10/2011 - CSX River Subdivision, Ridgefield Park, NJ - CSX X417-10????

Following right behind Q417 (Selkirk Yard, Albany NY to Pavonia Yard, Camden NJ) is what appears to be an X417-10, an extra section of Q417. This train was almost totally identical in consist to what Q417 was hauling, which are the Cryo-Trans refrigerated boxcars, the steel coil cars, and carloads of ground scrap metal in particular. I didn't set up in time to get Q417, so I had to accept the loss, but made up for it with this pleasant surprise running maybe 15 to 20 minutes behind it (real close!!!). Leading is C40-8W 7747 and C40-8W 7346 , southbound on Track 2. Was awful odd to see the regular train and an extra running so close, as 2 separate trains rather than one long manifest. I did not have my scanner, so I cannot positively confirm this as an X train (I did positively ID Q417), so anyone who views this who may have been out on the River Line shooting, if you can positively confirm this train, please leave it in a response (Mr. Healy, I am sure you can help with this!! :-))

Good catch Paul, and yes I can help!-) This wasn't X417, X417 had 558 in the lead followed by another AC44CW, this is most likely an S439!-)

@chealy349 Stop me if I am wrong, but an S designator would run when the normal run (in this case Q439) would not be scheduled to run. Since thie was yesterday (09/10), Q439 would have run yesterday (AFAIK, it runs Mon-Sat). And it was quite odd, Chris, this train had the EXACT same similar consist as Q417 did, and even the same number of locomotives. See what happens when one does spur of the moment railfanning without their scanner!!! :-P :-D Learn from my mistake, Chris!! :-)

@MNRRConductor2006 You're right about the S, actually X is an section which runs when the normally scheduled train doesn't.

@MNRRConductor2006 S means a second section of that train, X means would run the normal run, but not scheduled. S439 appears to be running everyday now, but since you said it had the exact same consist as Q417, my guess now is Q409, Q409 will look like a Q417 sometimes, it carries the same cars you pointed out & has the same power. runs everyday too. and also by the angle of the sun, it's about the time for this train too. My money says Q409!-) been there, done that with the scanner!-) lolol!!
