Return to Forever IV
Orpheum Theatre

Return to Forever IV, the legendary jazz fusion band led by 16-time Grammy Award-winner Chick Corea, reveals a new lineup on their full-scale U.S. summer tour. Consisting of core members Corea (keys), Stanley Clarke (bass) and Lenny White (drums), along with Mahavishnu Orchestra alum and violin virtuoso Jean-Luc Ponty and guitarist Frank Gambale, these five pillars of jazz will bring a re-imagined musical dimension to their classic repertoire. Their ever-evolving set list encompasses an amalgam of Return to Forever classics, highlights from each member's solo repertoire and brand-new compositions written for the Return to Forever IV lineup.

  • Where does ZPZ come into the picture? Great video though...

  • @Greenaresy

Sorry, we were using this promo video for a performance of the two bands, but this video is only of Return to Forever. I will update the title now that the show has already happened.

  • @hennepintheatretrust: Splendid!

  • The song is called "School Days", by Stanley C.

    Cheers.

  • can somebody tell me what is the song they play at the end of this video?

  • @pineappaloupe Hmmmm Not sure why you're having trouble. I jsut checked them and they work fine. Mind you: They aren't complete links. They're both youtube vids starting from "watch?...". Keep everything to the left of "watch?" the same as in this vid's address, including the slash. Here they are again:

    watch?v=AqdlkTlfl6o

    watch?v=lEZ3CSuyB1A&NR=1

I'll also favorite them so you can see them on my channel if you like.

  • @happystance9able hey can you re-link that video? im trying to copy paste both of them and am failing....

Also.... how about the album 'My Spanish Heart'. Ho. Leee. Shit.

  • @pineappaloupe Of course, here's Chick with Vinnie:

    watch?v=lEZ3CSuyB1A&NR=1

But the Corea-Zappa connection is only very indirect. They never played together, did they?

  • @pineappaloupe Thanks. To return the favor, I offer you a suggestion of my own. Try to memorize all the unison riffs and solos of this tune:

    watch?v=AqdlkTlfl6o

It's one of Chick's very best. Underneath the great, flamenco-influence is something with the grandeur of the Bach D minor Chaconne for unaccompanied violin. It's LATED-PERIOD Corea. Something like late Chopin. It's RICH.

  • @happystance9able If you like Romantic Warrior, a lot (like have all of the changes memorized) you will dig the song Inca Roads by Zappa. It is an intricate arrangement with a lot going on and a lot of abrupt transitions. And you will probably get off on the keyboard work. Hots Rats is basically a jazz/blues album.

I have all of the albums mentioned memorized, have been listening to the Zappa ones for over 2 years, almost weekly, and still get my mind blown. Enjoy.
