yes that's what is known as a vacuum flask or thermos. by having no material inside you eliminate all convection and most conduction (the best ones ever made still leak heat via the connection between the inside and outside) and leaving the little bit of radiation the flask emits in between.

well I got it half right. I thought the block on the right was metal so it would melt the ice faster but I thought the block on the left was ceramic not plastic. oh well same diff.

the icecube on the right is ALIVE i tell ya!

I thought that a good thermos also worked off of vacuum? Thats why some, with similar insulation, will hold temperatures much longer right?

GREAT that you subtitled this.

Prof. Robinson, nice job. It's a pity that it's your only science video.

awesome video! thanks for sharing that with us!

The ice cube on the right moved because your kitchen worktop is not level. Good little demo all the same.

Great video!
educational, fun, kept my attention. I am also very impressed with the captioning for the hearing impaired. Well done!

Thanks! BTW, it is more proper to use the term "Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing" than hearing impaired. :-)
Those of us who are "deaf impaired" truly don't realize how badly captioning is needed on internet videos...
