Used utube to prep the given brace of phesants the other week. Will now use this vid to now prep the brace of duck I've been given. May be a really stupid question but...would it be easier to remove the feathers if the duck was dunked into water first; thus stopping the dry feathers sticking to your hands?

Good video.
I just plucked and cleaned my first duck using these two video clips as a guide.
My duck was somewhat flattened by the van in front of me that drove over it which made cleaning out the inside trickier with bits of broken bones in there.
One thing I did wrong which is mentioned in this video is to rub down the skin hard to remove the fluff. I ended up doing the bird a second time just rubbing to remove the fluff. Rob

Deadlybrit,I dont go hunting but raise my own ducks for butchering you have to gut em before you let them age In cold weather its ok to have them hang outside but in warm put em in your fridge also you can have them age overnight they taste fine.
Why do regulations say you have to keep one wing to transport? Whats the reason behind this?

Hi, You need to keep a wing attached so the game warden knows exactly what bird you harvested as there are different regulations on different species. It's always best to check your local regulations for State and Provincial laws before transporting game.

Sweet! Very helpful. Just plucking my first duck whilst watching this, going well so far! Once I've plucked it, do I need to start chopping and preparing it for cooking, or can I hang it?

Dear New Duck Plucker, You can hang the bird but it must be in a very cool place like a garage in near freezing temps or in your fridge. As a rule of thumb, whatever you do with the duck, think of it as a chicken you bought from the store and treat it the same way, i.e., it will spoil if you don't keep it very cool and I wouldn't hang it for very long.

My preference is to refrigerate immediately after cleaning and then cook very soon, or, freeze immediately. If freezing, I prefer to wrap tightly in plastic wrap then stuff into a ziploc. It will stay very well in your freezer for up to a year if wrapped tightly.
