  • i love her, and this is done beautifully, but i dont think this role really fits her, Damrau is a big powerful coloratura and adelle is suppoed to be a lightweight soubrette

  • Ah, well, just like Susanna. But anyway, she sung those roles a couple of years ago, I don't think she would sing Adele or Susanna again, now, her voice is growing and changing a lot :)

  • as I listen to more and more of her recordings, I begin to realize that I think I pretty much like everything she sings!

  • I hate admitting this but Diana Damrau's voice is like crack to me, hopefully i don't get an intervention for a long LONG time.

  • LOVE the picture at 3:03!

    XD

  • @Lilith89ibz hat sie einen mann? und kinder?

  • As stunning as ever, performed by the always larger-than-life Miss Damrau.

  • that was really nice!...I wish I could've seen you acting...although I can pretty much hear it in your voice. Great JOb!!

  • Actually Blondchen is rather a high tessitura in her arias. Remember Welche Wonne, welche Lust, it´s not higher than a5 but it´s in a very high tessitura all the time so it´s necessary to have a light voice or a voice which sits very high to manage it. And many soubrettes are light coloratura sopranos with a lighter and more girlish voice and not that lyrical. But it´s also true that you need a stronger lower register to have the power for a more radiant high register like Diana´s.

  • Therefore, to cast Adele with a heavier voice who has the top is the preference rather than a "lightweight" who would have a hard time with the tessiatura of Adele.

  • Also very important is a soubrette's ability to act, think about how key her character is to the plot and the relationship to other characters. Special soubrette roles like Blondchen (besides the awaited high E in Durch Zärtlichkeit she is always singing in the middle range especially in the quartet) and Adele who has many opportunities to show off her D, these roles are often cast with "lightweights" because D and E are often too high or very uncomfortable for a real soubrette.

  • For your information it is a common misconception that a soubrette is a "lightweight". In fact if you take a closer look at standard soubrette roles (Susanna, Despina, Zerlina and Marzelline) you'll notice that the tessiatura sits in the middle range, the part of the voice where "lightweights" are the weakest.
