@Freakazette95 - It's only fair to point out that none of that stuff was original with this movie either ...

When the maid "opens" the window... tell me that wasnt one of the most modern things youve seen from this period of time. Her whole production was ahead its time by miles. Have you noticed the dress of Olympe?, Amazing.

You can get the DVD if you buy the 1936 Greta Garbo version, it's included as a lovely bonus feature!
-
In fact, both this and the 1936 movie lift a lot of the lines straight from the opera (rather than the book).

What a sweetheart Gaston is -- lucky Nichette.

@Freakazette95 The origins of this movie go back to the novel "La Dame aux Camélias (The Lady of the Camellias) by Alexandre Dumas written in 1848. The novel first became a play in 1852 and then Giuseppe Verdi turned it into the opera "La Traviata" in 1853. Moulin Rouge ripped off or reinterpreted a lot of things, but other than the basic plot line, I fail to see any similarities.

lol ill admit nazimova is a bit over the top...BUT all in all...this movie is completely beautiful... i really want it on dvd now. those sets...!!! :::swoon:::!!!

Wow, Nazimova is ridiculous, LOL. And to think, she studied with Stanislavski... Clearly it didn't take!
More Rudy please. ;-)
Hey that stupid Moulin Rouge movie hecka ripped this movie off(like it did with several other things!) with him throwing the money at her and saying he finally can pay for her love and her being all sick and dying! This is sad! This beautiful movie gets forgotten by the general public and that trash of a movie gets praised! Disgusting!
