Mafia II's exciting action and uncompromising mob story make for an impressive and violent adventure.

  • This is one of my favorite games of all time, I hate how underrated it is, I actually think it's better than GTA4, it's just the right length, brilliantly paced and the story has tons of variety and loads of twists and turns, yeah the graphics aren't the best and the open world is a bit of a tease - but who actually cares if you can't go bowling or take your ANNOYING cousin to a strip joint every five minutes? I couldn't put this game down, and that's so rare for me

  • THUMBS UP FOR MAFIA 3!!!!

Most gaming stories are mediocre at best when compared to Hollywood. Most people buy their games based on how fun it is, not some pretentious reason. That's what games are about. Sports, don't have to try and create stories for their mediums. They're loved for the competition themselves. Games can have good stories sure, but I skip them mostly because they're often contrived and unnecessary. Gameplay is the heart and soul of the industry and we shouldn't hide it

  • @PCGamerwannabe

so games without stories can't keep up in this gaming world? I guess that leaves out almost all racing games, ones which still sell incredibly well, Modern platformers, tons of indie games, and all sorts of games that have arcade style gameplay.Your opinion that gameplay driven games aren't able to keep up with today's games is laughable seeing how much evidence is against you. Yes we've come far in the story department, but we're not even close to there yet.

  • @90sJunkie1 I hardly view myself as a 'fool' because I discredited Donkey kong, mario etc. In fact, I never discredited them at all; I mealy suggested that they are out of date and unable to keep up with today's games were gameplay and storytelling can merge together. Also, I fail to see the difference between a book with words and a movie screen with words. They are both books in different forms. Finally, while gameplay-only games can be exciting I prefer a mix of both gameplay and story GTA 4?

  • @RedRiverChannel thats only because much games gotten worse... see gta 4 compaired to the older ones...

  • @steffyweffyish

well, compared to mafia 1 mafia 2 isnt really that good.

  • @PCGamerwannabe

also games are not movies. Movies would be boring if instead of images, there were just words. Books are like that, but they're not boring because they're a different medium. Gameplay only games can be very exciting. If you're going to discredit donkey kong country, Super Mario Bros 3 and world, Sonic the Hedgehog, etc. then you are a fool.

How condescending. I enjoy a good story when it happens as long as its backed by solid gameplay. Max Payne for example or Red Dead Redemption. However your statement that arcade games are played by kids is ludicrous. Something that is very kid like is only allowing yourself to thoroughly enjoy something unless you consider it "mature" and "story driven". That is very immature and child like. You enjoy crappy games with passable stories, while I'll be a gamer.

  • @90sJunkie1 Would a film be interesting if it was constant action with no plot, or a would a book be interesting if it was just colourful pictures? Also, While it's true that arcade games aren't based on a story, they're just for killing time and are mostly played by kids. I personally enjoy a good story far more than constant action with no structure. You're not one of those adolescents who cant concentrate if there isn't a constant stream of action, are you?

  • @PCGamerwannabe

No because that never happened. Yeah people line up for Super Mario, Sonic, Space Invaders, Galaga, Asteroids and every other arcade game made because of its fantastic story right? Gaming is a medium founded on gameplay.

  • it's a shame how people cant overlook mediocre gameplay and appreciate a well passed, interesting plot. Does anyone remember when the story was the most important part of a game?
