Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - 1987 World Figure Skating Championships, Pairs' Long Program - Ekaterina Gordeeva and Sergei Grinkov of the Soviet Union won the Long Program and ended up winning their second World Title.
@muscleboi4use Totally agree. And I suspect given it was 1987 that the commentator (NOT Scott Hamiton) was harking back to his Cold War mentality when he made the 1 1/2 pair comment.
The commentators almost patronise G&G by calling them a 1 1/2 pair... well, they stayed a pretty darn long time in the sport to prove everyone that they were both equals. They were amazing together. RIP Sergei Grinkov, you are missed by ALL skating fans throughout the world.

Sergei Grinkov is the ONLY male pairs skater to continue his forward momentum after throwing Katia into the rafters. No one else has ever done that.
