Paul Stamets finds Cordyceps capitata fruiting/parasitizing a truffle, Elaphomyces granulatus in old growth forest of Olympic Peninsula, Washington State, USA. Most Cordyceps mushroom species parasitize insects, but a few parasitize truffles. Fungi Perfecti is studying this Cordyceps for its potential health benefiting properties. Paul found this mushroom with Tim Girvin (videographer) and Dawn Clark, field assistant on Oct 30, 2010 deep into a mixed aged old growth forest, with tree succession of 50, 200-400, 400-600, and 800+ old trees. Gorgeous mushrooms and environment. Life at its best !
