Jon Madin - Parade ECCPA 2010

Jon Madin leads an all-in workshop at the Early Childhood Conference of Performing Arts (ECCPA) in 2010.

Participants learn 'Mary Had a Little Lamb' on marimbas, echocellos, musical exercise bikes, and drainage pipe J-boppers. Rhythms are played on blue barrel drums, pipe tic-tocs and parade percussion - poles with cow bells, cymbals etc. activated by string pulling.

@mgreene939 The design for pole percussion instruments is recent, and not in my wacky instruments book. You could probably make them by copying the one near the start of the video. The cross stick has streamers on one end and a tapper to hit the cowbell on the other end. I have tied some elastic cord onto the streamer side to make the stick return to its original position after the main cord is pulled. I've made smaller ones for kids that have a tin can as the soundmaker. Good luck! Jon

Are there directions somewhere on how to make those long instruments with the steamers in this video? I have all your books, but haven't seen these instruments in your music instrument books.

@mgreene939 Thanks for your comment. Yes, I'm working on a new book with lots of letter name songs. But it will take me a while to finish it. I get distracted making more instruments like the ones in this video. Regards, jon
