One Minute (A Jonas Brothers Love Story, Chap. 16)

I was shaking. I couldn't hear what the doctor was explaining. My head was buried into Nick's chest. Tim had tears in his eyes, Lori walked outside with my mom. They couldn't take the hospital. Jake, Ryan, and Cameron all came in furious. They whispered something into Nick's ear and I was suddenly in Jake's arms, I looked for Nick but all I could see was his hair bouncing up and down outside the windows. He was headed for a car. I was suddenly running for him. I didn't know what I was doing or thinking, but I needed Nick, not Jake. When I saw who was in the car I stopped dead in my tracks. I fell. I fell to pavement fast. I heard a door slam shut and feet running over. My head was between my knees.

"Ash? Ashlynn? Ashlynn look to me! Ashlynn! ASHLYNN!"

My head snapped up. They looked into to my tear filled eyes. One looked like they have been crying and was starting again. The other had tears in his eyes. He picked me up and moved me toward the grass. He put his arms around me. The other was sitting next to us, head between his knees, shaking. We all cried. Today had been horrible for all of us. After forty-five minutes of crying, we all stopped.

"Ash, I want to say I'm sorry. Truly honestly sorry. I didn't want to kiss her. I didn't want to do what happened to you to Kelcie." Nick cringed at Joe's words. "I saw how much it hurt both you and Nick. It still hurts you two. I didn't want to do that to Kelcie. I've hurt myself already. And I know I hurt Kelcie today. I'm just soooo sorry. Please, please forgive-"
"Joe, don't worry. I forgive. Sorry about the push this afternoon too.."
"I deserved it."

We were all quiet. It had gotten dark. Kelcie's family had left due to closing hours after my parents left. Nick asked if I wanted to stay at his house for the night. My parents didn't care since I really needed him. Who else did I have? I didn't have Kelcie. So me and Nick laid down on the couch. Joe went to his room. I cried more a little bit after midnight. Nick just held me. He didn't say anything he just let me weep into his already tear stained t-shirt. I guess I fell asleep. I woke up around two in the morning to Nick moving me. We were somewhere new in the house.

"Sorry, did I wake you?"
"I guess. But its okay." My voice cracked.

He put me down on something soft. I realized it was a bed. We were in his bedroom. He moved to his dresser.

"Want to change into something more comfortable?"
"Umm.. Yeah."

He tossed me some athletic shorts and a t-shirt. The shirt smelled just like him.

"You want some sweatpants?"
"Are you going to turn the fan on?"
"Yeah. That's how I sleep, but if you don't want-"
"Its okay. I need the fan. And yes, I'll take the sweats if you don't mind."

He opened another drawer. Something landed in front of my feet. I started to take my shirt off and I saw he was looking straight at me.

'Want me to turn around?" He grinned when he said it. First time since this afternoon I smiled.
"Please do."
He turned around. "I love your smile. One side comes up further than the other. It makes the side of your eyes crinkle. Like a little kids, or an elderly person who has smiled their whole life."
'Well I do smile a lot. Not today maybe, but.." I got the shorts on finally. "You can turn around now. I'm just going to put the sweatpants on." I was standing up on his bed.

He chuckled at me. I finally got the sweats on and sat down, he lifted me up onto my feet. He grabbed my waist and pulled me into an unexpected kiss. I wrapped my arms around his neck. We stood there like that more a little bit. We weren't kissing anymore. My head was against his chest. I fell asleep like that. I felt him pick me up and wrap my legs around his waist and then set me on the bed again. He moved my legs and arms but still kept my head against his chest. There I fell into a deep, but needed sleep.
