In this recording you will listen to an extremely rare variety of raga PuriyaKalyan on his sitar. He played an aochar alap followed by a middle tempo gat set to Trital of 16 beats.

Sanjoyjee takes pleasure in introducing Chiranjit Mukherjee to the world of Indian Classical Music lovers. The young Chiranjit is an extremely promising tabla player from Kolkata. He is a disciple of Pt. Kumar Bose, the famous tabla player, and a student of MA at the Department of Instrumental Music of Rabindra Bharati University.

Raga PuriyaKalyan is a very popular name of raga. But, the type of PuriyaKalyan that Pt. Sanjoy Bandopadhyay chose to play in this piece is extremely rare. This raga takes shudh-Re, Tivra-Ma and omits P as opposed to the popular PuriyaKalyan that takes komal-re [and Tivra-Ma] and does not omit any note. But it is interesting to note that both the popular and rare PuriyaKalyan ragas are mix of Puriya and Yaman [Kalyan].
