Well, lots of different opinions about Lil Jimmy Reed. I was lucky enough to get the call for his Scottish and Swedish Tour and I can safely say he is one of the Best Guys I have ever worked with. The most easy going and generous person I have ever played with! He's not somebody imitating the Blues, he's lived it! He was a Sergeant in the Army when segregation was still the norm and comes from Enterprise, Alabama so, he's seen it all.

Well, he is good and has his own style but has to stick to his name because of marketing.

I saw this guy in Scotland today, and he ROCKS!!!! he is probably in his 70s but with the energy of a 20 years old. Excelent guitar player, very talented and very good performer.

Having spoken to Lil Jimmy, he feels that it would have been better to have changed his stage back to his own name (Leon Atkins), all those years ago. However, at his age (well into his 70's), and with a bit of a name in the USA and Europe, he really has to keep it, now.

Andrew, I searched but the closest I came to finding a BB King Jr. was a Burger King Jr. Whopper and it was delectible. Will try to find Roy Roberts and Arthur Duncan now.

And I don't mean to put down Lil JR's music,

Cliff, I agree that he's a second or even third tier act, but just made the point that he's VERY much in the authentic blues tradition (yes, an African-American tradition at the root) and really does not proclaim to be anything but that. There's a whole tier of second and third tier blues acts that few here would know like a Butterfield or Hendrix (arguably more from the blues-rock tradition, anyway)but it doesn't make a Roy Roberts or Arthur Duncan anyless worthy. Check out B.B.King Jr., too!

Dear Andrew, Everyone's entitled to their own opinion. Mine: I wouldn't mention Lil Jimmy Reed's name in the same breath as gifted musical innovaters Paul Butterfield, Jimi Hendrix, the real Jimmy Reed, John Lee Hooker

(with whom I played) and other greats. These guys are luminaries, legends. Sorry, but Lil Jimmy Reed is not in their class, musically speaking. Let's agree to disagree.

It's a bit of a reach to call yourself that but Muddy Waters had a local "Muddy Waters Jr." and there was (is?) a BB King Jr." as well. Whether you guys know it or not, it's a tradition in the community that started this music. I'm not defending it totally but just saying "it is what it is."

And "Little Jimmy Reed" is at least as real a blues man as Paul Butterfield or Jimi Hendrix, as long as we're tracking it.

The real Jimmy Reed's surviving family members should have a say, I think.

But What about us who come to hear Jimmy Reed music we know he's dead but instead we get nothin' but a good Saturday afternoon Jam band when can I play a solo?? forget about tradition call and responds or 2 guitar turnarounds.
