who...needs...that?!?

@Wutaninja Except that multiplies lava sources, which isn't supposed to happen. Those should be lava *flows*; and, if there is no adjacent water, they immediately change into those.
If it wasn't a bug, you could just create more lava sources this way.

Remember that this is technically bug abuse, i.e. cheating.

@Jaxuhe It isn't cheating at all. It's not a bug, the redstone acts as a temporary lift for the lava until it can take out redstone by running over it. The water then turns the source blocks of lava into water. It follow's the game's code to the dot and is, in no way, cheating.

It is utterly possible to make entire portals or buildings using nothing but one bucket of lava, one bucket of water, and stacks of redstone, dirt, and a few shovels.
I've got a field of latticed portals (trying to get ghasts to show up) that I made without using up any lava or diamonds at all. Once you know the principles, you can do it.

@Ganalef Of course. You do not even have to use dirt molding if you place the water on top of the lava source block in time. There is actually a challenge out there that states you must go to the nether without making any tools. It is possible and I almost did it before. Lots of ways to make portals, I'm just allowing easier access for the more generic route. Thanks for the comment.

This is a brilliant way to get more obsidian out of 1 bucket of lava. Great tut will be using this in my own world and thanks. Also FIRST!!
