Detroit's beleaguered city government exploded today when the council threw out Deputy Mayor Anthony Adams after a heated verbal confrontation between him and Councilwoman Sheila Cockrel over the proposed Detroit-Windsor Tunnel deal and benched a development proposal after receiving an unsigned letter accusing Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick's father of participating in it.

Coupled with Cockrel's statement to reporters that she had received a letter from federal authorities informing her that some of her phone conversations were recorded as part of the probe into the Synagro contract as well as a letter ordering her to produce all documents she had related to the Synagro contract and Systematic Recycling composting host agreement, today's turbulence was extreme.
