Um, having a main black caharacter in NOT a sign of changing or being against racism.
1) Minstrel & blackface was the most racist entertainment (& most popular) in 19th & part of 20th centuries. Guess what? The main character was black (white w/ make up). Putting a real black man in some didn't make it better; it was racist.
So yes, more racist earlier, but ALaddin has Arabs as main character, but calls them "barbaic".
well, you kinda have to look at what they lived with Racism was very apparent during the times of the original Disney (well, I guess they are trying to fix themselves or something; in their new movie they have a black main character).
everyone's racist, even those who are being "singled out" (IE blacks, mexicans, etc.) but are they not racist too? if you ask me, they are sometimes more racist well, I live in Texas (omg, everyone is so racist here) so I guess that's just what I've noticed.
that bird on 1:32 as a choontado aka a wetback aka a watcho aka a mexican ass hahahaha. but its cool ima mexican too. i got choontado styles bitch! :D
Whoever made this video is racist. "But why Darverses?" some may ask. Because you need to watch the only episode of South Park that I learned a life lesson from. The episode of the "offensive flag." Stan and Kyle saw nothing wrong with it, but some did. Their defense was about killing, it had nothing to do with the race. You all need to stop trying to identify every single thing as black or white and accept it for what it is. THEY'RE A BUNCH OF GANGSTER BIRDS; WHITE CROWS DO NOT EXIST!
THere's a very good documentary on racism in American entertainment on youtube for FREE.
See "Racism in America. Who kept it alive?" it looks at minstrel & blackface, how it calss blacks inferior & its connection to slavery - the connection to Jungle Book is perturbing.
"Abc in Dixie" & numerous others works designed for children were used to teach stereotypes built on racism. Sadly, that's what's in these films.
Its not just 'context' as they still do it subtly.
These WERE racist- especially the Jungle Book & Peter Pan. & people said it.
Take the Jungle Book: its pure blackface w/ monkeys saying "I want to be a man". Frderick Douglass denouced minstrel in the 1850's as racist. That film IS pure minstrel. & Kipling wrote "White Man's Burden"
Peter Pan: Injun, Redman - racial slurs. The "Indian Princess" dancing for whit man's sexual pleasure - that's common in colonial litrature. Why red? You ask black people Y are you black?
Context. It's all about looking at things in context in which the time they were created. Most of these movies were made before 1970. Racist in today's standards? Maybe, but to call Disney racist because of sterotypes is a long shot. I mean I'm sure I could look through movies and shows and find plently of white redneck sterotyping too. It's just a matter of looking for it.
U have to be honest with urself. If u look for it u'll find racism. Clearly they don't have the same thought about the topic. The only way to 'fix' it is 2 destory history books.
