from Bilzen Jazz and Rock Festival held on August 24/27 1967, Bilzen, Belgium
These are the belgian Mods from Antwerp
The original Mods band member and founder Paul Syniawsky provided me with some infos about this great band:
"What you've got is a video of what you could call " The Mods Mark II." The guy who sings is called Ronny Verpoort. He played rhythm guitar and sang in the original Mods. As you can see all the other musicians in Bilzen were other guys.
The story goes like this : Ronny's father was our manager and, as he was a travelling salesman, he could set up gigs for us all over the Flemish part of Belgium. This was OK for a while but as we wished to go professional we felt we had to fire him. The result was that he forbid his son to stay with us and contacted a group called "Rhythmic Relationship", promised them lots of work when they changed their name into "The Mods" and put his son in the front as leadsinger. I warned those guys (which I knew) not to do so but they did anyway. At the end it didn't last that long because they were not half as good as we were before and nobody was really happy with the situation. Meanwhile I was called into the army and the rest of the "early" Mods went to play in other bands. When I came out of the army I formed my own band "Paul's Collection" ... and the rest is history.

  • @antwerpification

Sven Holmgren ??? Can I have contact details of Stonne ?

  • my dad rocks the guitar !

  • Fun to see myself 44 years later ... still play drums, not with the same guys though

Lead singer (Ronny) was killed some 23 years ago in a pub/ bar in Antwerp

I now play with Orange (url orangetheband.be) and we took up same repertoire as then (nothing but oldies !)

  • Well, thanks for posting this international bit o music history, regardless of personal informatiion. What ever be came of the people here? Love the creative camera shots here.

  • I've always known this to be a Temptations record. My mother own's it on 45. Impressive as hell.

  • I never heard this song till Rod Stewart did it.

Note the groovy face painting on the band members.

  • Wow this tracks rocks. Great clothes , nice psychedelic R&B style sound, groovy front man and guitarist and from Belgium??

That festival looked amazing too. Never new the Dutch and Belgium's had such a cool scene going back then. 1967 was a great year everywhere not just San Francisco and London. Wish I had a time machine to go back to this festival.
