Sedonia of the Nile Breeze Dance Company, SIUC Furr Auditorium, Carbondale IL, November 2008. Sedonia performs her own Egyptian-style choreography to an instrumental arrangement of Ya Msafer Wahdak (The Lonely Traveler), originally sung by Oum Kalthoum. The song, composed by Mohamed Abdel Wahab, incorporates Andalusian elements, giving it a Flamenco flavor. Interestingly, Oum Kalthoum, a purist with regards to Egyptian song, initially resisted the idea of collaboration with Abdel Wahab, who was well-known for his experimentation with Western stylings and instrumentation. Excerpt from the lyrics: Oh lone traveler passing me, In the fire of desire I will wait, And be patient with my heart and hope.
