Québec a Nation History (Part 17)

The Invasion of Québec in 1775 was the first major military initiative by the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. The objective of the campaign was to gain military control of Québec, and convince the Québecers to join the Revolution.

The Battle of Québec was an attempt on December 31, 1775, by American forces to capture the city of Québec, drive the British military from the Province of Québec, and enlist Québecers for the American Revolutionary War. Richard Montgomery and Benedict Arnold led a force of about 1,200 American army forces and Québecers militia in a multi-pronged attack on the city, which, due to bad weather and bad timing, did not start well, and ended with Montgomery dead, Arnold wounded, and Daniel Morgan and more than 400 men captured. Following a somewhat ineffectual five-month siege, the American forces were driven to retreat by the arrival of ships from England carrying British troops in early May 1776. The battle was the first military defeat for the Continental Army. American forces received supplies and logistical support from local residents, and the city's defenders included locally raised militia. Some of those that supported the American cause were subjected to a variety of punishments after the Americans retreated.

  • @Dryice12341 Our Independence took almost two centuries to fully occur. The US' took years. That's the difference of war vs. peaceful measures.

No point to be taken : just facts.

  • The American Revolution was completely unreasonable. The British actually GOT RID of all the taxes except for a small tax called the Stamp Act. The US was ignorant and rebelled anyway. When the US became independent, they started taxing the colonies too! Most documentaries and books don;t tell you this because the are pro-american.

  • The french support, in matter of fleet logistic, material, powder and guns, is a fact. But the declaration of war was not the king of France's will. He was be forced by La Fayette and a small group of French officers who sales to America to bring a direct support to the Insurgents. At this moment these officers were considered as Outlaws in France. Later, by consideration of the new opportunities for France, the King will approve La Fayette's actions.
