@mugg1991 It's actually not all that complicated. It's called Phase Cancelation. It works like this: When sounds match in pitch, they get boosted. E.g. when you hum a note and play it on an instrument at the same time. Using this principle in reverse can remove or reduce sounds. Most vocals in a stereo track are exactly the same in both channels, so by making both channels mono and inverting one of them, you cancel out all of the similar sounds. Reverb, however, is not similar and persists.

@mugg1991 For the audio... basically, split the stereo track, set them both to be Mono tracks, invert one of them, and merge the two together. All audio that is exactly the same on both (meaning, the main singing voice) is cancelled out in this process, leaving the stereo background music merged into one mono channel.

Use mplayer to isolate parts of a Dolby Digital or DTS encoding.

Note: 0/1 are front L/R channels, 2/3 are surround L/R channels, 4 is center channel, 5 is LFE channel. Format is O:R:S:D:S:D:...

O = # of output channels (speakers, usu 2). Setting O=1 will play the same sound from both stereo speakers

R = # of routes changes to follow (never more than S, but can be less)

S = source channel (where the audio data is)

D = destination channel (where the audio is played)
