Tony Marini and Dave Magliozzi explore all the register voices on a Scandalli Super VI accordion at Alex Musical Instruments in New York City.

Sorry about any confusion during the comparison of organ and harmonium registers. Of course, it's
organ = L + H (16' + 4')
harmonium = L + M + H (16' + 8' + 4')

This accordion has a LMMH reed configuration, with cassotto.

Here is the full order of registers:

Bassoon = L (16') - in cassotto (inside the tone chamber, for a more mellow, muted sound)

Bandoneon = L + M (16' + 8') - both in cassotto

Accordion = L + M + M (16' + 8' + 8') - both cassotto voices plus the "open" middle (outside the cassotto)

Harmonium = L + M + H (16' + 8' + 4') - low and middle cassotto reeds with the piccolo reed added

Organ = L + H (16' + 4') - low and high reed combination

Musette = M + M + H (8' + 8' + 4') - "imitation" musette, not the "true" musette combination of three middle reeds (MMM), because the LMMH configuration only contains two middle reeds.

Violin = M + M (8' + 8') - the two middle reeds, the cassotto reed plus the open 8' reed, which may be tuned identical to the cassotto 8' ("dry" tuning) or tuned sharp a few cents ("wet" tuning). I believe this accordion is completely dry tuned, as I didn't notice any difference in the pitch of the two middle reeds.

Oboe = M + H (8' + 4') - the middle cassotto reed plus the piccolo reed

Flute = M (8') - the "open" middle reed outside the cassotto (tone chamber)

Clarinet = M (8') - the middle reed inside the cassotto (tone chamber)

Piccolo = H (4') - the high reed

  • Is this a newer Super VI, or an older one? It's hard to tell from the relatively low-fidelity audio here... I played a new Super IV last year and found it quite mediocre. I came away with the impression that Scandalli had kept the case design but no longer bothered to make remarkable reeds. (Or maybe no one's still around who knows how?)

  • @ahatefu its about 11.000 euro i have the accordion myself and its great /watch?v=vYwZhdEY0t8 here is a song i played on my accordion
