@KrystalBall11 the tail keeps all the flavour... Here, in Italy we don't even take off the head, because it gives an incredible taste to the dish!

the tails do make it look even more appealing. and personally, i eat the shells-they are digestible.
but, when you're cooking it, it's not that big of a deal to take them off.

@prettyinpunk666 I agree. I also don't like when people leave the shells on clams when they mix it into the pasta. Who cares if it looks better? I don't wanna get my hands covered in sauce trying to get the clams out of the shell. :[

Take the tails off. I've seen so many choking accidents. People just want to put a forkful in their mouth, not worry about biting off the end, which in turn will likely fall back onto the plate.

Exactly. There's nothing worse than getting jammed in the roof of your mouth by a tail. It's not that big of a deal to take off the tails.
