Slack Key guitar legend Ledward Kaapana performing "Ka Uluwehi O Ke Kai" at the Grand Opening of the National Museum of the American Indian in 2005. "Ka Ulwehi O Ke Kai" was composed by the late Edith Kanaka'ole and it celebrates the many kinds of seaweed found on the Hawaiian islands.

  • Led's version is the best. And to see Auntie Edith's daughter perform a hula that so perfectly portrays harvesting seaweed in the surf, the joy and the hard work, well, this is a joy to watch.

  • I had the pleasure of meeting Led in the showroom of the Royal Hawaiian Hotel where he was performing with the Beamer Brothers back in 1980. He sat with my wife and I and had a beer with us and signed his new album that featured Honolulu City Lights.

He had the big smile back then, just as he does today. He was a great guy back then and I'm sure he's still a bundle of fun.

Someday I'm going back to Hawaii just to buy him another beer. Nice to see you again Led!

  • I was there for this performance and festival could have sat and listened for days.

  • Since i first watched this video i have watched serveral other dancers do this dance. The beautiful lady in this video is dancing a slightly different style. I am not an expert on Hula, but i like the way she dances to the song.
